cost of hair removal

Hair removal is not free. Or is it? Ouch! Plucking and shaving. Well, if you are reading this then probably you want something more.

The kind of laser being used (yes,  it matters)… the amount of hair to be removed (duh, more work more cost). Basically, it is a matter of how much time an expensive professional and expensive equipment needs to spend to service your request.

Where you have it done also influences cost. To a lesser extent, what body part and payment package you choose effects the cost.

But, how much is it going to cost YOU? Right?

Well, without a lot of explanation or details, you are looking at $2700 to $4400. Ouch. Yes, you may want to consider daily shaving and grin-and-bear-it.

However, on the other hand, you are looking at a long term investment. It might be worth it to you.

There are things you can do to contain or reduce the cost. Sometimes, by taking a provider up on special offers, treatment price can be cut by a third!  If you bring cash to the table, a discount can sometimes be negotiated. Bringing a hairy friend can get you a referral discount.  Ask what financing they have from many areas or packages with other procedures.

Bottom line? Yes, it is going to be expensive, because you are asking expensive professionals and expensive equipment to work for a significant amount of time on your behalf. They need to be renumerated. On the other hand, if this is an important goal for you… it IS doable and hopefully, affordable. Good Luck!

I have very dark and thick hair. And my skin is also sensitive. I am sick to death of shaving, and I’ve used depilatory creams, waxes and tweezing methods b4….didnt like any of them so I went back to shaving b/c its the only one that doesnt hurt as much or leave a nasty smell on my skin or a rash, and I tweeze my eye brows too.

Shaving is still time consuming and since my hair grows back rather quickly I find myself shaving my underarms every other day (sometimes everyday) so I have to shell out for shaving creams and razors many times a month. I dont make much money either so that’s pretty sad for me :( (I’m 20 and in college so you can imagine how broke I am)

I used to take cosmetology classes at my high school and my teacher was a professional cosmetologist and owns her own salon. She was talking about hair removal methods when we got to that chapter and she told me that Electrolysis is indeed permanent (but i do keep hearing that it’s not permanent “forever”, but as long as it’s permanent in some way im good lol) but expensive. I know that Lazer Hair Removal is expensive as well.

From everyone who have done either of them, can you tell me which was the best choice for you and which do you think is the best choice for me? Let me remind you that I have sensitive skin and really dark and thick hair lol. I am DESPIRATE to get one of these methods done, I am really sick of shaving and if I get to stop doing this for atleast a month, I’m good.

Also, the price is not much of an option for me - I mean I dont make much money but I’ll shell out any amount of money for this as long as I get the results I want, I really dont care. I’d also like to know how and where can I find a reputable place that does this there where I live (Tampa, FL). Thank you very much!! Your help means A LOT to me!!!!!!!!!!! :)

David Faulkner asked:

Does the often-touted permanent laser hair removal treatment really exist? Is there actually a method for ridding oneself of unwanted, unsightly body hair forever?

The term “permanent laser hair removal” is commonly applied to permanent lessening of hair on a specific part of the body. They hair, while it may be significantly reduced, cannot be completely stopped from returning, especially as the hormonal changes which accompany the aging process occur.

What the permanent laser hair removal process actually can accomplish is the slow the re-growth of treated hair for several months, or in some cases, years. Most people who experience re-growth can have it removed with an additional permanent laser hair removal treatment one or two times annually; the initial treatment will normally include between six and eight sessions spaces between six and ten weeks apart.

The appeal of permanent laser hair removal is that the results are superior to those achieved from waxing, depilatories, tweezing, and shaving. Electrolysis has results comparable to those of permanent laser hair removal, but takes a much longer time to complete and is more painful.

Factors You Should Consider

Not all people will have satisfactory results from permanent laser hair removal, and should be screened before hand to determine if the treatment is suitable for them. Complexion and hair color, other medical conditions, the skill of the person performing the treatment, and the variety of machine used will all make a difference in the outcome.

Permanent laser hair removal machines operate by focusing a colored light beam thrown a liquid, gas, or crystal which amplifies the light in a narrow bandwidth which enters the hair follicle and is absorbed by the pigment of the growing hair. Dark hair will absorb more of the light’s energy, so permanent laser hair removal is more effective on dark-haired individuals.

Because the laser light heats the hair shaft as it destroys it, lasers are normally equipped with cooling devices to avoid burning the skin in the area being treated.

Permanent laser hair removal machines include the Alexandrite, diode, ruby, and Nd:YAG models. The doctor who is overseeing your treatments will be the one to decide which is most appropriate for your case.

Side Effects

Side effects from permanent laser hair removal treatments are usually temporary and insignificant. They may include swelling, itching, redness, and minor irritation in the area from which the hair is being removed. A few people may experience a temporary darkening or lightening of their skin, and if proper sanitary procedures are ignored, infection. Those considering the procedure can minimize their risk of side effects by taking the pre and post-treatment measures recommended by their doctors.
